• Base Salary $95,860 + 17% superannuation

About the opportunity

The Sydney Environment Institute is a national and world leader in multidisciplinary environmental and climate research, known in particular for work in the environmental humanities and social sciences. The Communications and Engagement Officer will work closely with a small team who support the delivery of SEI’s mission to extend and amplify the scope of engagement on environmental issues and bring together expertise from across disciplines to tackle the greatest challenges in favour of the common good.

As the Communications and Engagement Officer, you will deliver SEI’s communications strategy to increase the reach of, and drive engagement with, SEI’s research. You will continue to build SEI’s reputation as a leading climate and environment institute and play a key role in coordinating and managing communications on a variety of platforms.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

• coordinate and create communications using different channels including newsletters, social media and email to increase reach and drive engagement with SEI’s research
• manage the SEI website including the creation, collation and maintenance of content including editing news and analysis pieces and video/audio content
• assist academics in research translation, reworking formal research outputs into more publicly accessible writing, op-eds, blog posts, and/or policy papers
• monitor and analyse the performance of SEI’s communications channels including newsletters, social media and website.
• work closely with media and communications professionals across the University and beyond to elevate the position of SEI in internal and external communications channels
• assist in the continuous improvement of SEI’s Communications Strategy and in the preparation of reports on this strategy
• support the development, co-ordination, and implementation of initiatives to build the Sydney Environment Institute’s brand and reputation.
• work within a dynamic team, reporting to the General Manager - SEI

About you

• demonstrated experience in developing and executing marketing communications campaigns and strategies across a broad range of channels and mediums, including social media and website
• experience managing and growing social media presence (X, Blue Sky, LinkedIn, Facebook), newsletter subscribers and website reach, grounded in sound analytics
• excellent written communication skills with the ability to write appropriately for different platforms and confidently copy-edit your own work, and that of others
• excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills with sound negotiating and conflict resolution skills
• highly self-motivated with excellent time management and organisational skills, and the ability to balance competing priorities while still meeting deadlines
• ability to understand, a wide range of topics and writings in environment, sustainability, and climate research performed at the University of Sydney
• strong working knowledge of Microsoft office, Adobe Suite, Hootsuite and Campaign Monitor is highly desirable.
• tertiary qualifications and/or relevant work experience in a related field

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
