Arts Programs provide students with opportunities to engage in creative and cultural experiences while on campus. Arts Programs run a suite of student-based visual arts programs including exhibitions in the George Paton Gallery; an arts workshop in the Arts Lab including a Creative Workshop program; a Mentorship program, and the UMSU Art Collection. We support student’s creative endeavours through, mentorship, advice, and opportunities to make and exhibit.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Working with UMSU staff and elected student representatives and operating under the general direction of the Arts Programs Coordinator, this position is accountable for delivering exceptional visual arts skills and creative experiences to students through exhibitions, workshops, mentoring, advice, and instruction.

Your Key Accountabilities will include:

  • Connecting student communities and their audiences through the arts.
  • Planning and delivery of a public and creative workshop program.
  • Mentoring students through the GPG Mentorship Program.
  • Building student and stakeholder engagement.
  • Administration activities that support arts programs and projects; and
  • Developing and promoting arts projects.

ABOUT YOU

To succeed in this position, you will have tertiary qualifications related to the visual arts coupled with relevant experience, or substantial experience in the field. Essential to your success will be demonstrated knowledge and experience in the coordination and delivery of arts programs.

We are seeking a friendly and helpful candidate with excellent interpersonal skills to engage and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders with a proven ability to work in a team environment and achieve team outcomes.

Demonstrated computer literacy and knowledge of social media platforms, image editing, website management, databases and spreadsheets, word processing and email/calendar software is essential.

Experience in the higher education sector and/or in student, community and/or membership-based organisations; and an understanding of, and commitment to, principles of student unionism would be advantageous.
