The Dietitian will provide one to one dietetic support & interventions such as evidence-based nutrition services, dietary counselling, & preparing goal-oriented plans.

headspace Early Psychosis is an early intervention service for young people aged 12 to 25 years - the program where the Dietitian is going to work.  Psychosis involves the experience of symptoms such as, confused thinking, false beliefs (delusions), hallucinations, changes in mood - such as ongoing depression and changed behaviours, such as irrational anger.

  • Support dietary & nutrition needs of young people in headspace
  • Part time 3 days per week in Mount Druitt - with friendly multi-disciplinary team
  • $41.32 ph + Super + Generous salary packaging benefits

Role Overview:

The Dietician will provide one to one dietetic support and interventions through a variety of forms, such as evidence-based nutrition services, dietary counselling, and preparing goal-oriented plans with people as a part of their holistic care.

Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 

  • Assess consumers physical health and nutritional status, addressing metabolic parameters, social factors and any current mental health treatment that is underway.
  • Facilitate interventions that will enhance mental wellbeing, aid in symptom reduction, and promote recovery using evidenced based nutrition, behaviour and lifestyle interventions. 
  • Develop, organise, and supervise individual care plans in close collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.

Essential Criteria:

  • Tertiary qualification in a Dietetics Association of Australia accredited course.
  • Eligibility to be an Accredited Practicing Dietician in Australia.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in your field of expertise.
  • Demonstrated understanding and knowledge of the role of Dieticians in the context of youth mental health, and the relationship between mental illness and poor physical health.  
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with young people and their families and friends, and sensitivity to the mental and physical health (including nutritional) needs of young people (12-25 years) and their families. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in assessment and treatment of young people’s physical health and nutritional status. 
  • Willingness to and experience in the development of evidence-based diet and/or healthy lifestyle group programs and individual interventions. 
  • Experience in assessing and managing risk of suicide and/or harm to self or others.
