Carer Engagement Consultant - Port Macquarie

Uniting (NSW.ACT)

About the Role

This is a full-time (35 hours week), 12-month contract opportunity where you will be based in Port Macquarie

We’re looking for someone who’s not just passionate about supporting carers—but someone who knows how to find the right people to care for children who need it most. As a Carer Engagement and Support Consultant, you’ll be right at the heart of building, supporting, and sustaining a strong network of foster carers across the Mid North Coast.

This isn’t just a desk job. You’ll be out in the community, connecting with potential carers, delivering training, helping navigate challenges, and walking alongside carers as they support some of the most vulnerable children and young people.

About you in the role

As part of Uniting’s Carer Engagement and Support team, you’ll play a vital role in carer recruitment and engagement, ensuring that children and young people are matched with capable, nurturing carers.

  • Recruit, assess and onboard new carers
  • Support and mentor existing carers, including through allegations and complaints
  • Deliver carer training, reviews and development plans
  • Collaborate with Caseworkers to support children and young people
  • Represent Uniting in the community and raise awareness
  • Participate in regular team and clinical supervision meetings

You’ll be part of a warm, committed team—supported with monthly supervision, statewide forums, and professional development opportunities.

About You

You’re confident, compassionate, and proactive. You understand the importance of finding and keeping the right carers, and you thrive in a role that blends autonomy with collaboration. You’re comfortable working in homes, at events, and in tough conversations—and you bring energy, humour and resilience to everything you do.

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Sciences or related field
  • Experience working in OOHC, PSP, child protection or similar (desirable)
  • Excellent written, verbal and organisational skills
  • Carer assessment experience or willingness to obtain Step-by-Step Assessor accreditation
  • Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel across the region when required
  • Group facilitation or training delivery skills (desirable)
  • Warm, flexible and emotionally resilient nature
