About Student and Scholarly Services

Student and Scholarly Services (SASS) provides student administration and services from recruitment and point of enquiry to graduation. This team also delivers wellbeing and scholarly services to students and staff.

The Safer Community Program (SCP) in SASS operates as the University's central support service for members of the University community to ensure a safe, respectful and inclusive environment.

About the Role

As Senior Advisor - Gender Affirmation, you will act as the first point of contact for members of the University community wishing to affirm their gender at the University. You will provide evidence-based support in assisting staff and students to develop and implement their gender affirmation plan within chosen University settings, enabling a safe and positive experience.

You will play a key role in liaising with University services and programs to ensure systems, processes and other elements are in place to support the implementation of an individual’s gender affirmation plan, and will seek to influence change or improvements as needed.

In a typical week at work, you may:

  • Provide support to staff and students wishing to affirm their gender within chosen University contexts, including assistance with the implementation of their gender affirmation plan
  • Work with University colleagues and stakeholders to promote inclusive systems, processes and environments for transgender and gender diverse staff and students
  • Respond to enquiries or reports made by transgender and diverse staff and students of discrimination, bullying, harassment and other threatening or concerning behaviours, to ensure personal, psychological safety and wellbeing
  • Assist transgender and gender diverse staff and students and staff to engage with the University and external reporting or complaint processes

Please note, this is a fixed-term opportunity available for 12 months.

About You

You will have demonstrated understanding of the wellbeing considerations impacting on transgender and gender diverse individuals, and expertise in the provision of best practice interventions. You will be able to build trusting and productive relationships with stakeholders to influence and enhance inclusive and safe environments for transgender and gender diverse individuals.

Ideally, you will further have:

  • Qualifications in a relevant discipline, and/or professional experience, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience, education, or training
  • Lived experience with/or demonstrated expertise in supporting transgender and gender diverse individuals to affirm their gender and in doing so, the capacity to navigate complex organisational settings
  • Demonstrated expertise in the provision of expert advice and consultation around gender affirmation and the associated system and processes requirements to support individuals affirming their gender
  • Demonstrated expertise in the application of legislative and policy frameworks relating to diversity and inclusion in large complex organisations
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience working with key services and programs for transgender and gender diverse individuals

To ensure the University continues to provide a safe environment for everyone, this position requires the incumbent to hold a current and valid Working with Children Check.
