About the Role

Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Sustainability, as the Communications Officer, Sustainability, you will coordinate the delivery and implementation of sustainability-related communications, in line with the targets of the University’s Sustainability Plan 2030.

This highly varied role is crucial in supporting the delivery of the Sustainability Plan 2030 targets, underpinning multiple engagements, and operational and strategic activities. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the implementation of a comprehensive Communications Plan to enable the delivery of relevant targets in the Sustainability Plan.
  • Creatively engaging, educating, and raising awareness, in collaboration with the Sustainability Engagement officer, using various modes of communication and engagement practices.
  • Investigating and implementing more strategic ways to communicate with the University community, including raising awareness of the University's Sustainability Plan and how the University is progressing against its operational targets.
  • Developing content and writing copy for campaigns, newsletters, websites, and other ad hoc publications and sources.

Who we are looking for

Are you a creative person with a background in communications/marketing looking to progress in the sustainability space? We’re looking for someone to join our forward-thinking and engaging team! You will have excellent creative and conceptual skills with a practical ‘can do’ approach and the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively at all levels. You will be able to draw upon your high-level organisational skills, in order to prioritise, self-motivate, and manage time effectively, within a busy environment with competing priories.

You will also have:

  • A relevant postgraduate degree or an equivalent combination of work experience and or training in communications, marketing, environmental sustainability, or other related fields, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Experience creating content and copy for internal and external publications/audiences including a variety of social media channels.
  • Ability to adapt complex sustainability issues and concepts into clear, targeted messaging, for a broad range of audiences.
  • Graphic design experience – including the use of online design packages, video production and editing and presentation-based software.
