What we are looking for 

UNICEF Australia is in search of a Policy and Advocacy Manager reporting to Head of Policy and Advocacy to initiate and make real and lasting changes which improve outcomes for children and young people in Australia and internationally.

Your day will include

  • Compiling, curating, and integrating evidence from relevant research, programs, networks and respected commentators to add credibility to the case for change 
  • Crafting policy briefs and position statements to inform UNICEF Australia’s public positioning on key advocacy priorities and child rights issues both domestically and internationally 
  • Monitoring the policy landscape and write submissions to ensure proactive and well-informed positions are created for UNICEF Australia 
  • Building relationships with Federal and State governments and departments on our domestic and international policy and advocacy agenda 
  • Developing advocacy campaigns to align with the policy priorities of the organisation and boost public engagement for these to reinforce the demand for change 
  • Establishing, sustaining, and contributing to effective relationships to advocate for change with key stakeholders within government, private and public sector.  

We would like you to have the following skills and experience

  • Appropriate tertiary qualification in fields of Public Policy, Social Sciences and Research, International Development, Law and/or Human Rights, or relevant field is desirable 
  • A minimum of 7 years' experience in areas such as social policy, international development, government, community sector, youth sector, child rights, and advocacy is advantageous 
  • Robust working knowledge of child and youth policy areas, coupled with advanced research and analytical skills 
  • Profound understanding of the functioning of domestic and international policy and advocacy environments, along with a track record of planning and executing advocacy campaigns leading to positive policy outcomes 
  • Comprehensive understanding of government and parliamentary processes, encompassing budgets, submissions, inquiries at both Federal and States/Territories levels 
  • Experience in effectively managing and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders 
  • Experience working with children and/or young people in vulnerable situations, whether in a research, policy, or service delivery capacity, would be a plus   
  • Passionate and dynamic team member with a sincere interest in contributing to the international aid and development sector.
