Counsellor - Hervey Bay

We are currently seeking a Counsellor/Educator to join our Post Separation Cooperative Parenting Program/Parenting Orders Program. This position will undertake assessments, short term counselling intervention, group education / therapy with parents who have been affected by separation and/or divorce, particularly in situations of high conflict, with a view to enhancing relationships with children of the relationship, and the capacity for co-operative parenting with ex-partners in the best interests of the child(ren).

As part of this role you will:

  • Undertake assessments, short-term counselling intervention, group education/therapy with parents who have been affected by separation/divorce
  • Prepare written and oral reports relating to:
    • Client matters (eg case notes, referrals, case reviews and case closure summaries);
    • Requests for client information from other involved agencies;
    • Statistical and administrative reports as determined by the Local Services Manager.
  • Utilise recognised and researched counselling approaches to assist clients to manage their relationships with their children and ex-partners.
  • Provide effective group support / education programs to deal with a range of issues relating to separation and divorce, and on-going parenting of children.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings in order to maintain a consistent, responsive quality service and actively engage in regular supervision including reflective practice and professional development.

You will require:

  • Current Drivers Licence - Presentation of a current Drivers Licence must be made before your appointment to the position can be confirmed.
  • Suitability Card for Child Related Employment (Blue Card) - All adults who work with people under 18 years in QLD are required to undergo a “Working with Children Check” under the screening provisions of the Commission for Children and Young People Act (2000) - Presentation of a current Suitability Card must be made before your appointment to the position can be confirmed.
