The Transport Workers' Union is one of the largest and most powerful unions in Australia representing transport workers and those who work in connection to the transport industry. The New South Wales Office is currently seeking a full time employee in a dual Lead Official/Campaign Co-Ordinator role, to assist in the development and oversight of organisers and the development and implementation of the branch's campaigns and industry plans. The position will be based out of our Minchinbury Office.
In the role you will work with Officials and Union leadership to grow and strengthen membership, develop organisers and delegates and build activism and leadership among Union members.
The position has a central role in lifting the organising capacity of the TWU. The role broadly involves the following tasks;
- Working with Union Leadership and Officials to plan and implement campaigns that build the strength of the Union, recruit and retain members and deliver strong industrial outcomes.
- The management and development of Officials in their role to grow the Union and organise workplaces and entire industry sectors.
- Working with members, workplace delegates and workplace leaders to assist them in their campaigns to build strength and organise at their worksites and across their industries.
- Research and data management. This will primarily involve the dissemination, collation, interpretation, analysis and presentation of a range of campaign material and information to Union Leadership, Officials and Delegates to assist in organising transport workers, building power and achieving outcomes for transport workers.
- Recruitment and retention of members. Through developing sustainable structures such as worker committees, communication networks etc.
- Communications – develop and implement appropriate messaging for campaigns across a variety of platforms.
- Development of both staff and membership through mentoring, evaluation and skill development.
- To commit to and work towards the TWU's 2035 Vision.
To be successful you will have:
- An understanding of how the Union works
- Experience as a union Lead or Senior Organiser or similar role
- Union campaigning experience
- The ability to motivate and educate union members and potential members
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent organisational skills
- The ability to work flexible arrangements
- IT skills including proficiency in word and Excel
- A demonstrated commitment to union values and social justice
- A commitment to the labour movement
- The ability to participate in the union's political and social justice agenda
