The Just Brass program, a community music program, was established to provide opportunities to primary school students who would not normally have access to a high-quality music program.

THE ROLE

Camberwell Corps are currently seeking a values-driven person to engage with at-risk students in partnering primary schools, through the provision of brass instrument tuition, participation in school-based ensembles, leadership development opportunities, and in a Just Brass band. Other key responsibility areas include:

  • Provide weekly brass tuition for young people in groups of two or more, and manage the brass tuition program in a partnering primary school
  • Oversee all aspects of weekly band rehearsals
  • Organise overnight camps for students from partnering schools and attend music/creative arts camps at Divisional and/or Territorial level
  • Build strong relationships with Principals, teachers, and student wellbeing staff at primary schools
  • Engage with the Corps Ministry Team to connect graduating Year 6 (or 7) Just Brass students with youth program
  • Recruit, select and train volunteer leaders for each of the Just Brass bands

The office of the position is located at Camberwell Corps however time will mostly be spent at partnering Schools.

HOURS AND SALARY

This position will work up to 10 hours per week fixed term to end of Term 4 2021. One day per week will be located at the participating school for tuition (day to be negotiated between the school and candidate) and attendance on Friday afternoons will be required for rehearsals at the Corps. Minimal work may be needed during school holidays.

This is an Award Free position.

IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • Extensive experience in playing brass instrument/s, coupled with experience in providing instrument tuition
  • Music qualifications, including teaching qualifications would be well regarded
  • Understanding of best practice in teaching students to play an instrument
  • A current Victorian Drivers Licence is essential
  • Be able to provide proof of Eligibility to Work in Australia
