About the role

We are seeking a dedicated Financial Counsellor! You will provide financial counselling, casework and advocacy for people who are in financial difficulty or hardship and implement community member centred case plans to alleviate financial hardship, develop financial resilience, improve mental health and personal wellbeing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Effective relationships are established with community members that encourage self-determination and participation
  • Community member centred and relational approach taken in all case work
  • Outcomes measurement survey processes are followed
  • Individual case plans developed in collaboration with community members and include a range of interventions
  • Case plans are implemented with active community member participation
  • Practice self-care and participate in the required level of ongoing professional development

This is a fixed term part-time position, 30.4 hours per week until June 2025, based in Melbourne 614, VIC. Salary and conditions are in accordance with SCHADS Level 5 Award.

You will have:

  • Level 5, hold Diploma of Community Services and are an accredited member of a state based recognised financial counselling association
  • Level 4, hold Diploma in Financial Counselling, work towards being an accredited member of state based recognised financial counselling association
  • Level 3, working towards completing the Diploma of Community Services in a timely manner, or are willing to enrol with a recognised registered training organisation and work towards completing Diploma of Community Services
  • Relevant experience in a Social Service environment or a good understanding of issues around the causes of financial hardship and financial exclusion
  • A valid Employee Working with Children's Check
