Why this role matters

The Doorways program provides person centred care to community members experiencing financial or other forms of hardship through the provision of financial and material emergency relief. Case management is provided at some of the Doorways sites to engage people through early intervention as well as address long term disadvantage to break the cycle of poverty and alleviate financial hardship. Our practitioners are strength based and trauma informed in their practice to build individual capacity, resilience and wellbeing.

About the role

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Doorways Assessor, at our Katherine location. Reporting to the Regional Manager, this is a casual position.

Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award, level 3.

You will successfully

  • Establish relationships with clients that encourages self-determination, participation, and supports them to improve their situation.
  • Establish effective work relationships with staff, clients and other stakeholders, as appropriate.
  • Maintain regular communication with all team members.
  • Conduct interviews and assessment for emergency relief (ER) with community members over the phone in accordance with Doorways guidelines
  • Determine the assistance to be provided in line with Doorway's standards of practice.
  • Community members are assisted to access support services through referral and advocacy to service providers within and external to The Salvation Army, where appropriate.
  • Actively support the local mission delivery model by working collaboratively with Corps.

You will have (Requisite Skills & Qualifications)

  • Experience working in the community services sector.
  • Experience working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds would be beneficial.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment would be highly regarded.
  • Self-motivated and shows a high level of initiative.
  • Outstanding presentation and communication skills (both oral and written) to be able to interact, network and build positive relationships with a variety of people.
  • WHS - knowledge of work health safety obligations and to practice these in the workplace in line with TSA policy & procedures and legislation.
  • Experience working with people who may not have English as a first language and knowledge of Local Aboriginal Communities and Culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a full range of PC applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
