The Community Centre Support Worker is an, contributing to and working across the varied operations of the Community Centre and programs.

The Salvation Army Brunswick has been engaged with the local community since its establishment in 1883, providing practical, social and spiritual support and assistance. We currently have a team of professional staff are from a variety of disciplines providing a suite of diverse, complimentary programs that are available to all people without discrimination.

THE ROLE

We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Community Support worker who will be an active member of the BrunswickSalvos team.

The primary purpose of the role is to:

  • Contribute to the smooth day to day operation of Brunswick Salvos Community Centre
  • Promote and supporting positive lifestyle change for clients attending the Community Centre
  • Be a role model of socially acceptable behaviours
  • Provide opportunities for clients to connect and participate in community

This position is a part time position, 19 hours per week, based at our Community Centre at Albert Street, Brunswick.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO HAVE

  • Diploma in Community Services or other related welfare discipline; or equivalent demonstrated experience
  • A sound knowledge of theory and effects of structural disadvantage
  • Experience working effectively with people who exhibit multiple / compounded service needs and / or are chronically disadvantaged
  • An understanding and ability to implement appropriate procedures and strategies to deal with crisis situations
  • Resilience
  • Self motivation and be proactive
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills - written and verbal
  • Experience using technology and software applications to complete administrative tasks
  • Willingness to reflect the mission and values of The Salvation Army
