ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia’s largest and most-loved charities, helping thousands of Australians every year find hope in the midst of all kinds of personal hardship. The Salvation Army offers the opportunity to use your professional skills and expertise to make a real difference in the lives of people who need help most.

Why This Role Truly Matters

At The Salvation Army (Salvos), we walk beside women and children when they are at their most vulnerable-offering not just services, but a pathway to safety, dignity, and healing. Every day, we support women and their children impacted by family and domestic violence with care that goes beyond the immediate crisis. Whether it's safe accommodation, counselling, practical support, or trauma-informed programs, our services are grounded in compassion, respect, and hope. We focus on prevention, recovery, and long-term healing-because everyone deserves to feel safe and supported.

About the Role

We're looking for a compassionate and resilient After Hours Specialist Family Violence Practitioner to join our dedicated team. In this pivotal role, you'll be the calm in the chaos-offering crisis support, outreach, and hope to women and children escaping family violence, especially in the critical after-hours periods when support can make all the difference.

You'll be based in Coburg North, Victoria, and work closely with our team to provide immediate and ongoing support, whether in crisis accommodation, refuges, or in the community. This is a permanent part-time role, reporting to the Team Leader.

What You'll Do

As an After Hours Practitioner, you will:

  • Provide life-changing crisis support and case management to women and children navigating trauma and uncertainty.

  • Respond to after-hours referrals with urgency and care-from crisis services, police, hospitals, and other agencies.

  • Offer face-to-face emotional support, coordinate emergency accommodation, and provide material aid to help meet basic needs in times of distress.

  • Conduct risk assessments and develop detailed safety plans that centre the unique realities and choices of each woman and her family.

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure holistic, connected support.

  • Maintain accurate and sensitive client records and help shape meaningful, achievable recovery plans.

  • Be available for on-call shifts (including weekends and public holidays) to respond when the need is greatest.

What We're Looking For

This role calls for someone who:

  • Brings empathy, courage, and professionalism to every interaction.

  • Has experience in family violence services or crisis support.

  • Is calm under pressure, grounded in best-practice approaches, and always puts safety first.

  • Is ready to make a real difference-often during the hardest nights of someone's life.

Why Join Us?

When you work with The Salvos, you become part of something bigger-a movement that believes in dignity for all. We offer:

  • Generous salary packaging benefits up to $15,900 + $2,650 for meals/entertainment.

  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for primary carers + leave for volunteering, wellness, and purchased leave options.

  • Flexible work arrangements and a culture of care and wellbeing.

  • Ongoing training and development to grow your skills and support your professional journey.

  • A deeply purpose-driven role with the power to create lasting change.

Conditions

This role is paid in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 5.

Ready to Help Us Break the Cycle of Violence?
