About

The Trans Justice Project is a national, trans-led organisation whose mission is to push back against the anti-trans lobby and build a powerful movement working for freedom, justice and equality for all trans and gender diverse people. We are working together with our loved ones, and allies to bring about a future where all trans people are safe, celebrated, and free.

The Role

We are looking for a talented digital all-rounder to join our fast-growing team. As the Digital Campaigner you will lead and manage our digital communications across social media and email - producing content, responding to emerging stories, and moving people to action around our current campaigns.

Your responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing our digital strategy
  • Producing shareable and engaging content for our Instagram, Threads, Tiktok, and Facebook accounts.
    • This will include basic graphic design, video editing, as well as copy and script writing.
  • Writing and editing emails to supporters
  • Helping to develop the organisations voice and style
  • Keeping a content calendar
  • Regularly testing and reporting on the effectiveness of our digital strategy
  • Providing input in campaign communications

Qualifications

  • We do not require any formal degree or training

Skills needed

  • Social media strategy: A sophisticated understanding of social media, how to communicate campaign information in a relevant way, and the different strategies and approaches that you might use for different platforms
  • Graphic design: Ability to quickly create clean and professional looking graphics using an existing style guide and set of assets.
  • Basic video editing: Ability to write scripts, generate content ideas, and cut video together for reels and Tiktok.
  • Copywriting: Strong writing skills and editing skills, ability to understand what is appropriate for different platforms, audiences, and 'voices'.
  • Basic skills in data and testing: Knowledge of how to run tests and gain insights into what is working and what is not.

Note: We are not necessarily looking for an expert video editor or graphic designer but rather someone who has a good sense for what makes for interesting and shareable content. We will be able to offer some formal training and coaching to help you succeed in the role.

Desired qualities

  • Commitment to the vision, mission, and values of the Trans Justice Project
  • Ability to think creatively and see ideas through to conclusion
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational, and time management skills
  • Excitement to learn and grow in your skills
  • A team player with a willingness to give advice, provide solutions, and help to shape the strategies of the broader team
  • A strong communicator who gives feedback and asks for help
  • A deep familiarity with the trans experience

The person in this role will likely be exposed to anti-trans hate through social media comments. As such we are looking for someone with good self-knowledge and emotional skills to recognise when these things are impacting them and ask for support.

If you meet even just a few of the criteria above we strongly encourage you to still apply.

Trans and gender diverse people have historically been kept out of many forms of employment. That’s why formal experience and training is less important to us than an excitement to learn, a proactive attitude, and an alignment with our organisational culture, mission, and values.

We particularly encourage people who are First Nations, people of colour, and/or trans feminine to apply.

What you can expect working at the Trans Justice Project

This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast-growing organisation at the forefront of trans justice campaigning in Australia. The Trans Justice Project is a team player, helping to support the broader movement for trans justice to be as effective and powerful as it can be. We value solidarity and bringing people together around a shared vision for change.

We are aiming to build a workplace that prioritises healthy relationships, learning, and personal growth. One where we treat each other with respect, where people work reasonable hours, and we take the time to do things well.

We are happy to be flexible around when you work your hours during the week provided that you are generally available for a set number of hours on regular days, and are able to be consistent and reliable.

This may make our workplace well-suited for people with small children, people who have a disability, or who need to manage a chronic illness.

Due to the nature of the role you may be occasionally asked to work irregular times so that we can respond to emerging news. We intend to avoid this wherever possible. You will sometimes be required to attend in-person events and will experience some weeks with a heavier workload than others. To compensate for this we offer a time-in-lieu policy.

We offer an award salary, 12.5% super, and four weeks (pro rata) of paid gender affirmation leave, wellbeing leave, and a free week of annual leave over the Christmas break.
