Role: Affirmation Station Shop Manager
Reports to: Operations & Relationship Lead
Hours: 22.8 hours per week, part-time – 0.6 FTE
- Thursday - 10:30am - 6:30pm
- Friday - 10:30am - 6:30pm
- Saturday- 9:30am - 5:30pm
Remuneration: Retail Industry Award Level 4
- Base hourly rate: $27.17
- Saturday work: $33.96
This is a part-time role. The successful candidate will also receive entitlements such as annual leave, gender affirmation leave and sick leave proportionate to their hours of work.
Location: Brunswick East
Term: 12 month fixed term contract
Checks: Employment is contingent on a satisfactory Working with Children Check and Police Check.

Role Purpose
The Affirmation Station Shop Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day retail operations of Affirmation Station, including volunteer management, rostering, merchandising, and supporting people to find wonderful gender affirming outfits.

- Be capable of working independently, taking initiative, and guiding volunteers with varying experience levels.

- Demonstrate professionalism and a clear understanding of workplace boundaries.
- Have lived experience as a trans or gender diverse person.
- Share values aligned with TGV’s mission.
- Have strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Have experience in retail and/or retail management.
- Be a strong communicator who values collaboration and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Operations & Team Management
- Manage shop sales performance and ensure smooth daily operations.
- Roster, train, and support staff and volunteers.
- Ensure a high standard of customer service.
- Maintain accurate volunteer and customer records using TGV’s system.
- Lead the sorting, quality-checking, and laundering of op shop donations.
- Creatively merchandise the shop and maintain a beautiful and welcoming environment.
- Provide customer service and assist with merchandise-related enquiries.
- Support community access to gender-affirming clothing and items.
- Warmly welcome people into the space and educate them on what the Affirmation Station serves as.
Financial & Administrative Tasks
- Assist with packing and sending online orders.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial recordkeeping.
- Maintain and regularly review shop procedures and the Operations Manual.
- Comply with TGV’s administrative and reporting requirements.
Workplace Health & Safety (WHS)
- Identify and manage risks in line with WHS standards.
- Support the physical and psychological safety of staff, volunteers, and customers.
- Manage emergency evacuation procedures if required.
Community Engagement
- Represent the shop at pop-ups, events, and community activations.
- Help build a sense of pride, belonging, and connection in the space.
Key Selection Criteria
Essential
- Lived experience as a trans or gender diverse person.
- Experience working within LGBTQIA+ contexts (paid or volunteer).
- Demonstrated commitment to privacy, confidentiality, and maintaining professional boundaries.
- An understanding of the challenges and joys of being a TGD person.
- Experience building positive community relationships with local TGD people.
- Empathy and people skills — particularly within the TGD community.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in a retail environment
- Ability to work autonomously while remaining connected to a team.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritise, stay detail-focused, and deliver results efficiently.
- Conflict management or resolution skills.
- Physical capacity to lift items between 5–16kg regularly.
- A current Working with Children Check.
Desirable
- Experience managing teams of staff or volunteers (especially in retail or LGBTQIA+ settings).
- Trauma informed awareness and/or mental health first aid training.
- Familiarity with Salesforce.
- Driver’s licence and access to a vehicle
