The Organisation

Established in 1916, RSL Victoria - The Returned & Services League, Victorian Branch is the largest and oldest veteran charity in Victoria. With the mission to provide the best possible support and services to all generations of veterans in Victoria the organisation offers a range of programs, services and initiatives to improve the lives of veterans and their families, raise funds to support these services, lead appropriate commemoration of service, and provide overarching leadership to our network of over 270 Sub-Branches throughout the State.

Most major towns and suburbs across the state have an RSL Sub-Branch including those who have established significant facilities for local members and their communities.

The Role

The role of Senior Manager - Veteran Services Operations is a pivotal position reporting to the Chief of Veteran Services you will directly contribute to the RSL Victoria mission through various veteran support services, veteran advocacy, wellbeing and community engagement.

This is a newly created role suited to an individual who has demonstrated significant leadership experience and an ability to manage and motivate teams to reach their organisational, team and personal objectives. You enjoy working within a culture of continuous improvement and excellence and have experience in leading a hybrid workforce of employees and volunteers.

Previous experience in an operational position in a service-based environment managing large departments/programs is essential. Your excellent stakeholder management skills will see you support your direct reports, staff, and volunteers, ensuring the successful day to day operation of the following programs:

  • Wellbeing Navigation & Support
  • Military Compensation Advocacy
  • Community Engagement

A key objective of the role is the development of program goals and metrics and ongoing reviews to ensure services meet the needs of veterans and their families.

Key duties:

  • Successful delivery of RSL Victoria services and programs supporting veterans and their families from multiple locations across the state.
  • Provide leadership and support to the management team as well as a hybrid workforce of employees and volunteers.
  • Develop and support teams to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Monitor, review and improve service delivery.
  • Involvement with veteran services related projects and oversee implementation of applicable project outcomes into respective programs.
  • Develop and maintain strong stakeholder relationships supporting program delivery, particularly with RSL Victoria Sub-Branches and other Ex-service organisations.
  • Represent RSL Victoria in appropriate forums with DVA, the Victorian Government Office or Veteran Affairs and other key Stakeholders.

You will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in business, management, social service specialisation or health and wellbeing disciplines
  • Proven experience in an Operational Management role or similar within a service-based environment.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Solid analytical skills and the ability to translate date and compile reports.
  • A client focused approach and be able to ensure the rights, needs and preferences of staff, volunteers and members of the veteran community are respected in all that you do.
  • Understanding of the needs of both current and emerging veterans
  • Commitment to the Mission and Values of the RSL
