The Company

Prahran Community Learning Centre (PCLC) is an established not-for-profit organisation and member of Neighbourhood Houses Victoria, located in the eclectic and energetic suburb of Prahran. PCLC offers a range of community activities, workshops, non-accredited Learn Local courses, as well as Occasional Child Care, disability services and aged care social support. The Centre has an open-door policy and welcomes people of all ages, abilities and walks of life.

The Role

As Executive Officer, you will manage PCLC’s day-to-day operations, its facilities and lead a team of staff and volunteers. The position will oversee and build relationships with external stakeholders, including community groups and public sector funding partners. Working closely with the Committee of Management, the role will deliver and grow quality programs that meet the needs of the Prahran community.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage the day-to-day business operations and directions of PCLC and ensure they are consistent with the Centre’s strategy, vision, mission and policies.
  • Lead and build a team of staff, educators and volunteers to run the Centre, and its activities.
  • Maintain and strengthen dialogue and partnerships with key stakeholders, including the Prahran community, donors, and local and state bodies such as the City of Stonnington.
  • Oversee the provision of all childcare and child related programs within the Centre, ensuring they are accessible and meet the needs of children.
  • Oversee and monitor budgets and financial reporting. Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements and service agreements.
  • Represent PCLC in external forums and meetings, including with Government, community groups and commerce.
  • Grow a range of programs and activities to ensure the Centre responds to community needs and encourages maximum use of the available facilities by the Prahran community.

About you

PCLC is undergoing a period of transition and renewal. This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking not-for-profit leader who is passionate about meeting the needs of the local community, with an ability to adapt to changing circumstances and to take advantage of new opportunities.

Essential Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience managing a community sector-based organisation, including operational, financial, and human resources management as well as experience in managing the full development lifecycle of new programs and services.
  • Previous experience and the ability to liaise and build relationships with other organisations, government departments and funding bodies.
  • Demonstrated experience working with a not-for-profit Board or voluntary Committee of Management.
  • Proven ability to recruit and supervise staff, volunteers and contractors and the ability to implement performance management when necessary.
  • Experience in formulating strategic and operational plans and managing budgets, including allocation of resources to achieve funding and contractual obligations.
  • Experience working in a commercially oriented role.
