The role

Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer, the Environmental Strategy Manager will play a crucial strategic, thought leadership & co-ordination role to drive SMCT towards its Environmental Sustainability outcomes. The role’s primary accountability is implementing the endorsed plan to meet Environmental Sustainability Targets and to positively influence all business units to align with the Environmental and Sustainability goals.

In addition, you will:

  • Lead Environment and Sustainability reporting through reports and presentation to the Executive Leadership Team, appropriate Committees and Trust.
  • Key stakeholder management, including partnering with internal stakeholders to develop an understanding of risks and opportunities across the business to help embed continuous and ongoing environmental sustainability considerations in everything they do.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of SMCTs Environmental Response Plan FY2023-FY2050.
  • Create the accountability frameworks to ensure all SMCT business units and staff are held accountable to deliver their contribution to the plan and its outcomes.
  • Align outcomes with minimum requirements handed down from Compliance and Whole of Government or Department of Health agencies.
  • Representing SMCT in Department of Health, and Cemetery Trust forums, Community Advisory Committee meetings and other engagements.

About you

You will be a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with strong strategic, leadership and change management ability. You will bring strong skills in scoping and managing key sustainability projects and technology as well as the ability to navigate challenges and work with a team and project partners to obtain success.

Ideally you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent professional experience in field related to Environmental sustainability
  • Up to date knowledge of organisational risks and opportunities with respect to Environmental Sustainability
  • 5+ years’ experience in general and operational business management
  • Knowledge/experience of Project Management methodology
  • Strong Stakeholder Management skills – ability to communicate and present to a wide range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, including at senior/ELT levels of the business.
  • Strong Business Partnering - Able to engage, interact, influence, and be a trusted and credible internal advisor.
  • Enterprise-wide Financial and Commercial Acumen - Interpreting and applying understanding of key financial indicators to make quality and informed business decisions
