About the position

This position will support the Tiwi vision for healthy country and preservation of their values through a front-line defence to prevent any further threats entering the ecosystem.

The successful candidate will be required to perform a range of screening, inspection and assurance related activities associated with cargo, aircraft, air and sea passengers and luggage that are entering or exiting the Tiwi Island region with an aim to protect the Tiwi region from any biosecurity risks.

Responsibilities

• Undertake inspections of cargo / goods, vessels such as; aircrafts, cars, trucks, boats and trailers, for unwanted pests and diseases with an aim to ensure they are free from biosecurity risks
• Reviewing documentation for imported and exported goods to ensure compliance.
• Upholding biosecurity policies and legislation and communicating requirements to travellers who are entering and exiting the community.
• Providing guidance, support & accurate information about biosecurity risk items including food, vehicles, animals and organic material.
• Undertaking various surveillance and assurance activities.
• Provide regular updates and reports to Management and relevant stakeholders on biosecurity risks
• Proactively prepare and deliver sessions on biosecurity risks with an aim to increase awareness.
• Undertake non-compliance functions regarding breaches.
• Respond to and manage significant biosecurity threats appropriately and, in a timely manner with support from relevant Government departments including the Defence
• Occasional travel to community with overnight stays may be required
• Other duties as directed from time-to-time
