About the role

Working in a full-time or part-time (0.8FTE) capacity, the Specialist Financial Counsellor will play a vital role in improving financial resilience, security and overall wellbeing for LGBTIQA+ individuals accessing our service/s. The role will also:

  • Utilise a holistic, person-centred, intersectional, trauma-informed approach when delivering the financial counselling service.
  • Provide individual financial counselling, debt management strategies and financial literacy education to LGBTIQ+ clients.
  • Advocate for clients with creditors, government agencies and housing providers to ensure fair treatment and access to financial assistance.

In addition to your salary of SCHADS Level 5 and superannuation, Thorne Harbour also pays above award. About you

You will have a Diploma in Financial Counselling and be eligible for membership with Financial Counselling Australia (FCA) or relevant state-based association. You will also bring to the role:

  • Demonstrated experience providing financial counselling, including debt management, financial hardship advocacy, and support for clients facing financial stress.
  • Knowledge of tenancy rights, eviction prevention strategies, and mortgage-related financial issues.
  • Experience developing and delivering financial literacy programs, workshops, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Strong case management, record-keeping, and reporting skills, with knowledge of relevant financial counselling regulations and ethical guidelines
