About the role

This newly created position will be based within our General Counselling Service, providing culturally safe, LGBTQIA+ affirming therapeutic support to clients impacted by mental health concerns, minority stress, trauma, identity exploration, and other psychosocial challenges.

Working in a part-time capacity, the role will also:

  • Conduct psychological assessments and collaborate on care planning as required.
  • Deliver high-quality, evidence-based, trauma-informed psychological counselling to LGBTIQA+ community members and those living with or affected by HIV.
  • Deliver case planning, advocacy and support as required.
  • Provide advocacy to clients navigating mental health and community support systems.

What’s on offer

In addition to your salary of SCHADS Level 5 (pro-rata) and superannuation, Thorne Harbour also pays above award. You’ll also receive 17.5% leave loading and an ability to increase your take-home pay by accessing up to $15,900 in salary packaging benefits.

About you

You will have a tertiary qualification in Psychology, full registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and eligibility to provide Medicare-rebated psychological services under the Better Access to Mental Health Care initiative (i.e., possession of or ability to obtain a Medicare Provider Number).

You will also bring to the role:

  • Knowledge of and experience with evidence-based therapeutic frameworks and trauma-informed counselling practice skills.
  • Experience and competence in the delivery of counselling involving diverse client groups.
  • Demonstrated competence in providing psychological therapy and conducting risk assessments.
  • Advanced organisational skills with the ability to collaborate across disciplines and complex systems and maintain professional partnerships with sector colleagues.
  • Comprehensive understanding of mental health presentations in LGBTQIA+ populations.
