About The Remote Pools Project:

The Remote Pools Project is a community led program that improves the health and vitality of First Nations communities, for present and future generations.

Pools are much more than a place to swim, and for nowhere more so than in a remote community. Local swimming pools are a vital and valuable community resource - places to gather, connect, clean off and cool down on a hot day!

The Opportunity:

Two full time, seasonal, opportunities for an Aquatic Coordinator ($80,000p/a + $10,000p/a remote living allowance) & Duty Manager ($70,000p/a + $10,000p/a remote living allowance) to operate the Lajamanu Water Park. The Water Park in Lajamanu is a hive of activity for the community during the wet season.

Working with the Remote Pools Project offers a unique opportunity to live and work in a First Nations community, delivering a vital community service by providing safe swimming experiences and delivery of community-led programs that aims to improve community health and wellbeing and equip children and young people with water safety skills and knowledge to prevent drowning.

The role commences in September where our operational team based in Central Australia will prepare for the season opening of the water park on 20 September. The pool operating season concludes at the end of April 2026.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operational Excellence: Oversee the day-to-day operations, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all of the community.
  • Team Management: Lead, inspire, and develop a team of local staff and visiting volunteers to effectively deliver safe swimming experiences for the whole community, enable community-led health promotion and coordinate swimming and water safety programs
  • Program Delivery: Design and deliver innovative aquatic and recreational programs that meet the needs of the community.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop, engage, and collaborate to improve local relationships while identifying partnerships, programs, and events that may benefit the community and the Y.
  • Fostering Inclusiveness: Maintain a clean, welcoming, and open environment for all members of staff and the community.
  • Risk Management: Implement and oversee risk management strategies to ensure a safe and secure environment in accordance with relevant legislation.
  • Financial Leadership: Manage financial planning, payroll, budgeting, and reporting to ensure the facility is financially stable.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current NT driver’s license.
  • Current First Aid Certificate (HLTAID003 or higher) and CPR.
  • Experience in aquatics industry that may include Pool Lifeguarding, swim teaching, pool operations. (Note that the Y can support the successful candidate to obtain qualifications to enhance their capability to fulfil the role)
  • An ability to lead a small operational team in a cross-cultural environment
  • Willingness to learn and understand issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander societies and cultures, including issues affecting communities in Central Australia

Mandatory Requirements

YMCA requires that all applicants undergo satisfactory screening prior to commencement, including but not limited to:

  • Valid Working with Children Clearance.
  • Satisfactory Criminal History Check.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and a commitment to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
