The Subiaco Justice Centre Inc (SJC) is an independent, not-for-profit organisation that provides legal services to disadvantaged members of the community. The Centre offers General and Family legal services by volunteer lawyers supported by law students. There is also a part-time Principal Solicitor who assists clients and oversees the legal practice. SJC clients are generally ineligible for legal aid, other community legal services or who are unable to afford the services of a private lawyer. They are means-tested to qualify for appointments. They include individuals on low incomes, homeless or on the verge of homelessness, living with a disability, indigenous and people of culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
The role of the General Manager is:
The General Manager reports directly to the Board. The General Manager is responsible for all human resources (HR) and other staff matters for the Principal Solicitor and volunteers. As a non-lawyer, the General Manager is not responsible for the legal supervision of legal practitioners, of as this lies within the responsibility of the Principal Solicitor. The General Manager supervises the organisation of all Volunteer activities, excluding the actual delivery of legal services. A detailed list of key responsibilities are set out below.
