About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Assistant Accountant, to come and work as part of a small, close-knit Finance team, who supports our amazing clinicians and operational support staff in making a positive difference to the lives of hundreds of children each year. The Assistant Accountant plays a key role in supporting the finance team by delivering a range of core financial functions. These include accounts payable, month-end processing and reporting, general ledger and bank reconciliations, BAS preparation, and maintenance of the fixed asset register.

This is a temporary full-time contract up to July 2026, based at our Newtown Head Office, conveniently located near Macdonaldtown Station, with some onsite parking available. We offer flexible working arrangements, including the option to work from home part of the week.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Accounts Payable - supplier invoice processing, processing creditor payments and attending to creditor enquiries
  • Month end processing – petty cash processing, month end journals and handling bank deposits
  • General Ledger and Fixed Asset reconciliations – accounts payable and receivable, balance sheet and GST reconciliations
  • Assisting and supporting the Accountant with preparation of monthly reporting

About You

  • Qualified in Accounting (Degree) with at least 5 years experience in an accounting or business services role
  • Sound knowledge and experience with month end accounting, general ledger reconciliations and accounts payable
  • A good understanding of accounting workflows, procedures and internal controls
  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proficiency in accounting systems is essential, with a strong preference for experience using Business Central Dynamics. Familiarity with additional systems, including payment gateways such as BPAY, PayPal, and SecurePay, as well as the Microsoft Office suite for general administrative tasks, is also required.
  • Highly disciplined and focused on completing tasks within month end deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and undertakes their role with a high level of accuracy
  • Excellent communication skills including building relationships within the team and across the organisation.
  • Willingness to obtain a Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Check and obtain full vaccination for COVID-19 (2 doses)
  • Full working rights to work in Australia
