Our Caseload Midwifery team members do, and they are looking forward to welcoming more passionate and dedicated midwives to their group of friendly, supportive and inclusive Caseload Midwives.

As part of our strategic commitment to strengthen and implement evidence-based, person-centred models of care, we are expanding our Caseload Midwifery to be able to provide greater access for women and families. The Magnolia caseload will work to evaluate the effectiveness of caseload midwifery care for women identified as experiencing socially inequity, compared to usual maternity care, on preterm birth.

About Us

Our Caseload Midwives enjoy great job-satisfaction experiencing high levels of autonomy, building relationships with the women and families they provide care for during pregnancy, labour, birth and post-natally, including supporting the transition to home by providing postnatal care in the home. Our Caseload Midwives are supported in providing this care by a collaborative team of other health professionals.

Caseload midwifery is a specialised midwifery led unit at the Women’s hospital. Caseload, historically known as COSMOS, from a world-renowned randomised control trial by La Trobe University and the Women’s hospital in 2007. Caseload midwives work in teams of three or four midwives. The caseload midwife must work closely with her team, and value teamwork.

Your duties will include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Working closely within a cohesive caseload group as part of Maternity Services team
  • Promote and support the health, well-being and informed decision-making of women in the provision of midwifery care.
  • A commitment to providing continuity of care (demonstrated by a commitment to the philosophy and aims of the program and the provision of consistent information) and continuity of carer in partnership with women and their families
  • Participation in unit-based quality and/or research projects to improve the standard of midwifery care.

About You

To be successful within this role you will be able to demonstrate competency in the following skills:

  • Providing care across the continuum of midwifery care including routine antenatal visits, antenatal assessment and triage, intra-partum and postnatal care
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills including communication, negotiation, advocacy and conflict resolution skills.
  • IVC insertion
  • Applying Fetal Scalp Electrodes (FSE)
  • Speculum examination
  • Artificial rupture of membranes
  • Examination of the newborn
  • Perineal suturing (or willingness to achieve within 6 months of commencement)

You’ll also need to have:

  • Registration with AHPRA as a Midwife
  • Two (2) years clinical Midwifery experience across the continuum of midwifery care
  • Commitment to providing care from a Caseload and Team Care philosophy and understanding and acceptance of the rostering and on call arrangements related to the Caseload model.
  • Willingness to participate in quality and/or research projects to improve the standard of midwifery care
  • Current Australian Driver's licence

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirement

Please be aware that in line with the Health Minister's Covid-19 Mandatory Vaccination Order, all workers at the Women's regardless of role, will be required to be fully vaccinated (3 doses) for COVID-19 or hold an acceptable medical exemption.

Influenza Vaccination Requirement

In line with the Health Services Amendment (Mandatory Vaccination of Healthcare Workers) Act 2020, some health care workers are now required to have their flu vaccination to work in health care. Evidence of vaccination is required.

As this role fits into category A or B of the departments risk ratings, applicants will be required to have been vaccinated against influenza. Evidence of vaccination is required.
