What We Can Achieve Together:

The Data and Science Manager (Australia) provides technical and scientific support and leadership for conservation initiatives and projects at TNC Australia. They supervise and manage a small team of skilled staff and provide monitoring, evaluation and learning functions for Conservation Teams at TNC Australia.

We’re Looking for You:

The Data and Science Manager (Australia) oversees the collection and management of data for conservation strategies and projects and is accountable for the accuracy and currency of data uploaded to TNC’s global online to store and present such data: The Hub. They classify targets and assess data to prioritize areas for conservation interventions. The Data and Science Manager (Australia) conducts scientific surveys and research, records data, writes reports and develops proposals in order to develop, manage and oversee programs within TNC Australia.

What You’ll Bring:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in science related field and two years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience managing staff, projects, workloads and finances under deadlines.
  • Experience synthesising, interpreting and communicating scientific information.
  • Experience preparing reports of findings.
  • Record of peer reviewed publications in scientific journals.
  • Experience working and communicating with a wide range of people.
  • Experience implementing monitoring, evaluation and learning programs

Desired Qualifications

  • PhD in a related field of science.
  • Applied experience in one or more of TNC Australia’s key conservation strategy areas.
  • Record of peer reviewed publications in scientific journals.
  • Experience synthesising, analysing, interpreting, and communicating scientific information.
  • Experience working with one or more of the following programming environments/languages – R, Python, SQL.
  • Applied experience in one or more of the following technical fields: natural capital accounting, ecosystem service modelling, machine learning or conservation analytics
  • Multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience appreciated.
  • Strong knowledge of common software applications.
  • Proven negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail.
