The Intersection Urban Learning (formally known as Urban Seed Education) is a small social enterprise utilising education as its primary tool to bring about positive social change.
An Intersection is a place where diverse connections are possible. We believe that to create a healthy society, we must engage in these Intersections and do the action of empathy.
Our education work seeks to activate young people through facilitated, conversational and experiential sessions, teaching the skills of transformational empathy in Intersections.
Role Purpose
- Deliver educational walks and workshops to young people, stimulating thought, questions and new insight in participants
- Raise awareness and educate students about themes and issues, focussing on homelessness & addiction, marginalisation, liveability, reconciliation/colonisation, migration, power and status, stereotypes, diversity and empathy
- To collect stories and experiences of your own journey as you learn to connect in diversity and do empathy.
- Invite participants to take steps to transform their attitudes and behaviours towards their own neighbour
General Duties
- Attend staff meetings
- Attend other scheduled gatherings and meetings
- Contribute to ongoing discussion of current organisational development
Specific Duties
- Facilitate The Intersection walks and workshops – a maximum of 3 per scheduled work day
- Assist with development of The Intersection curriculum
- Assist with promotion of The Intersection activities
Key Attributes and Experience
- Competence in group facilitation, story telling, performance or public speaking
- Can demonstrate an interest in and empathy for young people
- Excellent communication and listening skills
- Ability to display personal experience and/or specialist knowledge relevant to The Intersections key areas of education
- Highly punctual, reliable, responsible and organised
- Team minded
- Willing to participate in the life of the broader organisation
- Able to be self-reflective and take feedback

- None required but Education/community work welcome
Other requirements
- Current Victorian Working With Children’s Check is mandatory

- Occasional hosting of The Den workshop space to external groups
