The Gardens Club is a fast-paced café and vibrant events venue based in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens in the Brisbane CBD. We’re seeking a passionate cook to join our friendly, tight-knit and hardworking team. The Gardens Club is known for its delicious food, top notch Bear Bones coffee and also hosts a variety of private, corporate and wedding events throughout the year.

The Gardens Club is a Wise Foundation initiative and is creating sustainable social enterprise to address disadvantage. You would be working with a diverse, inclusive, supportive team environment and we are looking for someone who is seeking long-term employment.

We are currently seeking an experienced cook (minimum 2 years cafe and kitchen experience) to join our kitchen team on a part-time basis, offering consistently 24 to 30 hours per week, additional hours may be required in peak event seasons. Flexible availability both for early morning shifts (6:30am start) and evening work (no later than 9:30pm generally) is required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a variety of delicious and high-quality dishes in accordance with our menu and standards.
  • Ensure all food is prepared and presented to a consistently high standard, following recipes and guidelines.
  • Manage food stock and inventory, ensuring proper storage and minimising waste.
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to create and develop new menu items.
  • Maintain a clean and organised kitchen, adhering to food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Assist in training and supervising kitchen staff as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • 2 years previous experience as a cook in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Strong culinary skills with a passion for creating delicious and visually appealing dishes.
  • Knowledge of different cooking techniques and food preparation methods.
  • Familiarity with kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Understanding of food safety and hygiene regulations.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Availability

Flexible availability Monday to Sunday, definitely non-negotiable Thursday to Monday availability.
