About the Role

The role of Philanthropy and Development Manager will drive impactful philanthropic initiatives through exceptional and proactive relationship development, fostering connection with philanthropists, funding bodies and project partners to drive funding initiatives aligned with the Agency's mission.

Reporting to the CEO, this role collaborates to secure funding towards supporting projects and programs that elevate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, people and culture. Responsibilities include identifying potential donors, managing and stewarding existing supporter relationships, crafting proposals and grant applications, and creating impact reports for transparency. Strong data management skills are needed to maintain donor records and identify new funding opportunities. Engaging with stakeholders and collaborating within the dedicated team is essential, requiring a proactive approach and appreciation for art and culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Donor and Partner Engagement and Prospecting: Identify, cultivate, and maintain relationships with major donors, partners, Agency’s Impact Circle and potential supporters to secure significant funding.
  • Proposal Development and Reporting: Create compelling funding proposals and grant applications that align with the organisation's mission, and prepare reports to inform donors about the impact of their contributions. Maintain accurate records of donor interactions, gifts, and fundraising activities in the organisation’s CRM system.
  • Campaign Strategy: Develop and implement fundraising strategies and campaigns to increase major gift contributions. Conduct research on prospective donors and funding opportunities, keeping up to date with trends in philanthropy.
  • Stewardship: Manage donor communications, ensuring that supporters are informed about the impact of their contributions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including communications and program teams, to align fundraising efforts with organisational goals.

Agency are looking for someone with:

  • Understanding and respect for Indigenous arts, culture and practices, aligned with organisational values
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling proposals and reports.
  • Strong relationship-building abilities with donors, stakeholders and team members. Enjoys working collaboratively in a small team environment, supporting colleagues and contributing to a positive work culture.
  • A strategic thinker, proficient in conducting research on prospective donors and analysing funding opportunities.
  • Strong organisational abilities and high level of attention to detail, with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and challenges in a dynamic fundraising environment.

Your skills and experience will include:

  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a philanthropy or development role
  • Experience in writing funding proposals and grant applications
  • Demonstrated experience in major gift fundraising or philanthropy, with a track record of securing significant donations.
  • Bachelor’s degree / tertiary studies: Preferably in Arts Management, Communications, or Fundraising
  • A current and valid driver’s license.
