The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Communications Officer to join our team. The purpose of this role is to create clear, engaging, and accessible content on tenancy rights for Victorian renters and edit or review the work of others, prior to publication. You will play a key role in creating, auditing, revising, content for multiple projects working closely with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts.
Key Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and proofread a range of content including newsletters, web copy, narratives for tender applications, education materials, social media content, including video scripts,, campaign materials, and client impact stories.
- Collaborate with (primarily internal) stakeholders to develop messaging that aligns with organisational goals and amplifies our vision.
- Accurately translate highly technical legal information into accessible, inspiring content that drives engagement with our audiences, which can range from key stakeholders to the general public.
- Support the development of case studies, annual reports, and storytelling assets for fundraising and advocacy.
- Incorporate renter voices and ensure consistency across all written communications in voice, tone, and messaging.
- Optimise content for digital channels and comply with accessibility best practices, such as font size.
- Monitor social content performance as required and adjust strategies based on analytics and accounting for audience feedback.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, Marketing, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a writing or communications role, preferably within the nonprofit sector.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong experience demonstrating diverse content formats. This role is likely to include review of video content, editing to training presentations, and a wide array of publication types.
- Demonstrated experience developing engaging, and accurate, content from dense, technical source material.
- Strong storytelling skills with an ability to connect audiences to our vision.
- Ability to work collaboratively and deliver high-quality content quickly and accurately.
- Knowledge of Housing and or Community or Social Services.
- Experience in communicating technical or legal content to general audiences.
- Ideally sound graphic design skills
- Experience in campaigns or adult education products.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritise tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle challenging situations with sensitivity and tact.
