TFSVA is lutruwita/Tasmania’s new peak body for victim-survivors and family and sexual violence services. Its primary purpose is to provide a coordinated and strategic response to family violence, sexual violence, and child sexual abuse within the state. TFSVA aims to transform the culture and systems that perpetuate gender inequality and violence, striving to create a place where all people experience safety, dignity, and agency.

Summary of Position Purpose

The Sector Engagement Officer will play a key role in establishing our membership model to ensure meaningful engagement and representation across the family and sexual violence sector. The role is responsible for coordinating and facilitating meetings and consultations, managing events, supporting communications (including social media), and membership growth. This position requires an enthusiastic, warm, and engaging communicator with a strong understanding of the family and sexual violence sector and experience in member-based or not-for-profit environments.

Key Responsibilities/Tasks

1. Membership

  • In collaboration with the CEO and the family and sexual violence sector, establish a membership model for TFSVA
  • Recruit and onboard stakeholders as members of TFSVA
  • Provide responsive support to members, ensuring their needs and contributions are valued and integrated into TFSVA’s operations
  • Maintain accurate membership records and help drive initiatives to grow and retain membership
  • Collaborate in the development of member-exclusive resources and opportunities to support sector capacity building.

2. Sector Engagement and Consultation

  • Facilitate meaningful engagement with members and stakeholders through consultations, surveys, workshops, and meetings.
  • Apply trauma-informed and inclusive engagement approaches, aligning with IAP2 participation principles.
  • Support the development and implementation of consultation frameworks and feedback mechanisms.

3. Event Management

  • Coordinate sector events including forums, workshops, webinars, and conferences.
  • Manage event logistics, speaker liaison, registration processes, and event communications.
  • Contribute to post-event evaluation and continuous improvement.

4. Communications and Social Media

  • Develop and implement communication strategies to strengthen sector awareness and stakeholder engagement.
  • Create and manage content for newsletters, social media, website, and other communications channels.
  • Maintain and update social media platforms in alignment with organisational messaging.

5. Research and Sector Insight

  • Support the identification of key issues impacting the sector through engagement activities.
  • Contribute to the preparation of surveys, discussion and briefing papers to support consultation with the sector.
  • Collate and summarise insights from the sector to inform TFSVA’s policy and advocacy work.

Selection Criteria - Essential

  • Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement, communications, and project coordination.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilitation of meetings, and face to face and online consultations.
  • Understanding of or experience working within the Family and Sexual Violence (FSV) sector or related fields.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience in producing newsletters, social media content, and reports.
  • Experience in planning and delivering successful events.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • High-level organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and digital communication tools (e.g., Mailchimp, Canva, Eventbrite, or equivalents).

Selection Criteria – Desirable

  • Experience working in a member-based peak body or not-for-profit organisation.
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed principles and practices.

Other Requirements

  • A current Tasmanian driver’s licence and capacity to travel intrastate
  • Ability to hold Working with Vulnerable People registration
  • Consent for a police check and National Personal Insolvency Index Check (to be sought if a preferred candidate)

Work arrangements

The role can be located anywhere within Tasmania; it is anticipated that TFSVA will establish an office in the near-term in Hobart. The successful candidate may work flexibly from home by mutual agreement with the Chief Executive Officer. The role is 0.8FTE (4 days per week).
