The River Nile School (RNS) is a specialist, independent, inclusive, senior-secondary school, delivering Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) curriculum to young refugee and asylum seeker women, who have had disrupted schooling or are struggling to cope with mainstream school. It is a rapidly growing unique school with a student cohort of disadvantaged young migrant women. The school receives significant funding due to disability, particularly social-emotional trauma, to support the many individualised learning interventions.
The Assistant Principal we need is an innovative and influential educator able to be effective in a professional team environment whilst striving to ensure the long term learning vision, values and goals are aligned with our practice. You will be responsible for the overall management of the Learning and Wellbeing programs including overall accountability for the standard of delivery and the continued improvement of curriculum, competency based learning, student wellbeing and transition. This will include engaging in professional networks and system initiatives to enrich the development of school programs and working with the Principal to deliver whole school evidence based initiatives and to create the next 5-year Strategic Plan 2020 – 2025.
We will expect exemplary leadership, interpersonal and communication skills in individual, small group and community contexts and exemplary values pertaining to personal qualities of objectivity, sensitivity and integrity. We would like qualifications to Masters level in Education with post graduate qualifications in educational leadership, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and/or adolescent health. Experience in an EAL or VCAL setting, trauma-informed practice with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) students with complex needs will be highly regarded. Salary will be aligned with Victorian Government Schools Agreement Assistant Principal – Range 1, access to tax-effective salary packaging and training and development opportunities.
