If yes, SCALES Community Legal Service is looking for a locum position (preferably full-time) to cover a well-earned Long Service Leave period of 9 weeks for our Managing Director.

Who are we?

SCALES is a not-for-profit incorporated association providing quality free legal services to people living within the Cities of Rockingham and Kwinana.

Services include a tenancy service including a weekly duty service at the Rockingham Magistrates Court, the Family Violence Unit where women experiencing family and domestic violence can be assisted through a multidisciplinary team of solicitors, counsellor, client advocate and financial counsellor; and the Student Law Clinic.

SCALES partners with the Murdoch University School of Law and hosts the Murdoch Student Law Clinic. Law Clinic students interview clients under the supervision of solicitors and do all the related follow up work on behalf of the client.

A solicitor closely supervises every aspect of the students' work. Advice and limited casework are provided through the Law Clinic on:

• Consumer disputes
• Criminal Injuries Compensation
• Criminal matters
• Children's Court matters
• Family and domestic violence matters
• Equal Opportunity
• Family Law matters relating to children
• Fines and fines enforcement
• Traffic offences
• Limited humanitarian immigration matters
• Centrelink
• Tenancy

What are we looking for?

A suitably qualified individual to cover an 11-week period commencing in mid to late September, including a week handover at each end of the fixed term contract.

Primary duties will be overseeing and managing the leadership team, ensuring good governance of the organisation, managing financial and human resources, ensuring that projects progress and that stakeholder relationships are maintained. You will also contribute and drive positive team culture.

Selection Criteria:

• At least 2 years previous leadership experience in the not-for-profit sector
• Relevant tertiary qualifications
• High level understanding of governance and administration in a community service
• Strong human resource management skills
• Ability to manage and coach a diverse team
• Financial and resource management skills
• Project management experience
• Stakeholder engagement skills
• High level communication skills
• Understanding of human rights, inclusion and barriers to accessing justice issues

What can we offer?

• An 11 week full time contract located in the beachside suburb of Rockingham including a week handover at each end of the contract
• Ideally, we are looking for full time availability. However, part time proposals will be considered.
