WHO YOU ARE

You are an enthusiastic and experienced Events Manager with a passion for empowering students and curating transformative experiences. As a Programs Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading a team that creates and delivers a comprehensive program of student-focused activities and events on our bustling campus and have the opportunity to shape the experiences that empower our students to thrive.

WHO WE ARE

The USU is a not-for-profit organisation that has existed to serve the University of Sydney community since 1874 when it began as a humble society for ambitious student debaters.

We provide key programs, services and facilities that enhance campus life for the many thousands who join and interact with us. The programs department deliver student experiences through a range of activities including programs, events, clubs and societies, activations and funding initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced events manager to fill a fixed term maternity leave position. The role involves working closely with USYD students, a team of dedicated event professionals and stakeholders in a diverse environment. The Programs Manager is responsible for the continued evolution and delivery of a relevant program of activities and events for the development and entertainment of members. The primary focus of this role is to lead the delivery of a program of student focused events and activities on campus. The organisation operates all year round; with activities delivered both in and out of business hours. You will also lead and mentor a team of event professionals and student casuals to help deliver these experiences.

HOURS OF WORK

35 hours per week which may include some weekends, nights, and travel as dictated by business requirements.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • At least 5 years of event and project management experience
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent demonstrable experience in the field
  • Demonstrated ability to set and adhere to tight schedules and budgets
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated understanding of the youth market
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills 
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, train and inspire staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrable knowledge and skills in computer-based administrative systems including all Microsoft Office applications (particularly Word and Excel)
  • Demonstrated ability to delegate responsibility in an effective and appropriate way
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse range of people from differing backgrounds, as a member of a team and individually
  • Ability to work at events out of office hours

DESIRABLE CRITIERIA

  • Experience working with young people and in youth development
  • Experience in events production
  • A practical understanding of WH&S and EEO principles
  • Demonstrated knowledge of university-based organisations
  • A current NSW Driver’s License
