The Sydney Dogs and Cats Home (SD&CH) is highly respected within the animal welfare sector, providing shelter, food and veterinary care to lost, homeless and abandoned animals, primarily dogs and cats, until a time when such animals can either be reunited with their owners or found a new, suitable home.

2025 we are completing the construction of our new shelter which will be based in Kurnell.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical Leadership and Supervision - Provide onsite supervision and clinical leadership of the veterinary team.
- Mentoring, Training, and Development - Provide clinical mentoring and support to the vets and nursing staff.
- Hospital Superintendence and Regulatory Compliance - Act as the Veterinary Hospital Superintendent, ensuring legislative compliance
- Provide Exceptional Patient Care - Provide a high standard of surgical, behavioural and medical veterinary patient care. This role will be 50% clinical, with the remainder being a support role to the team.
- Collaboration and Communication - Work closely with the Practice Manager, Shelter Manager, and Managing Nurse to ensure operational alignment and efficiency.
- Kurnell Transition Support - Help facilitate change management within the veterinary team, offering support during relocation and adjustment.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of Veterinary Science or equivalent, with full current registration in NSW.
- Minimum 5+ years in a senior clinical role
- Previous experience in a shelter or high-volume practice.
- Minimum of 2 years management experience
- Excellent clinical skills across medicine, surgery, and diagnostics.
- Current Radiation User Licence (EPA).
- Strong understanding of animal welfare legislation, fear-free handling, and shelter medicine principles.
- Previous experience in superintendent responsibilities is highly desirable.
- Passion for animal welfare and commitment to SDCH’s mission.
- Familiarity with shelter and clinic software systems (e.g. EzyVet, Salesforce) preferred.
- Skilled communicator with the ability to guide and motivate veterinary staff.
- Solutions-oriented, proactive, and calm under pressure.
- Highly organised, with the ability to manage competing priorities and adapt in a dynamic environment.
