As a registered National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provider, SYC is passionate about empowering people with disability or mental ill-health to build skills for life, get into work and transition to independence.
Due to increased service demand, we are seeking for multiple exceptional Support Workers to join our NDIS Community Participation and Outreach Service team on a casual basis. This role is primarily based at our Kent Town location, deployment from other SYC sites may be required within the role.
As a Support Worker, you will have the opportunity to positively impact people living with psychosocial disability or mental ill-health by supporting them to grow their confidence, build social connections and create the positive relationships they need to pursue their goals and seize new opportunities. You will support participants from diverse backgrounds on a one-to-one basis by using a proactive approach that empowers and enables them to embrace opportunities, overcome obstacles and thrive in their communities. You will be able to draw on previous successes either in a similar role, through lived experience of mental ill-health, or from current / past studies in a relevant field e.g., psychology, social work, or mental health.
In this role, day to day activities will include:
- Working collaboratively with NDIS participants to identify their strengths and needs, and proactively work towards the goals outlined in their NDIS plan
- Engaging and working effectively with participants, promoting independence, and delivering direct practical support services to achieve agreed outcomes
- Consulting with participants to identify barriers and risks to establishing and achieving their goals, and assisting in the development of effective risk reduction strategies
- Traveling between participants and providing support to maximise social engagement and recreational activities, learning opportunities and group supports
- Supporting participants to navigate community support agencies and services e.g., doctors, allied health providers, community mental health services, housing providers, legal services
- Advocating on behalf of participants with relevant services, agencies and Government departments and attending appointments where necessary
- Delivering a person-centred approach within the NDIS Code of Conduct and Practice Standards.

- Empowering NDIS participants through the provision of therapeutic, person-centred and outcomes focused support
- Competent IT skills and experience in using Microsoft Office, Teams and Outlook
For this role, you will need to:
- Hold and maintain an approved First Aid Certificate and CPR certificate
- Be willing to complete a Working with Children Check, NDIS Check and National Police Check
- Have a current and valid driver's licence and your own registered vehicle with a 4- or 5-star ANCAP safety rating
- Be available on a casual basis across rosters that include weekdays & weekends, and shift times that fall within a 6:00am - 8:00pm timeframe
- Be eligible to work in Australia
- Be prepared to work from, or be located at, any SYC site.
