Exciting new opportunity has arisen to join our team at the Justice Support Centre we are a dynamic and socially conscious legal organisation dedicated to providing high-quality legal services to those in need. We are seeking a motivated and experienced Principal Solicitor to lead our Legal Practice, oversee Community Legal Education initiatives, and contribute to Law Reform activities when resources permit.

Position Overview:

As the Principal Solicitor, you will be the "solicitor on the record" for JSC, taking on a pivotal role in leading and managing the Legal Practice. This includes ensuring compliance with legal, professional, and regulatory requirements, aligning legal work with the organisation's Strategic Plan, and providing expert advice to the CEO/Board on legal matters and service delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement quality control and practice management strategies in compliance with the Risk Management Framework.
  • Lead and manage the Legal Practice, ensuring the delivery of high-quality legal services aligned with the organisation's Strategic and annual plans.
  • Drive the development of the legal practice to meet strategic goals.
  • Provide expert advice on legal programs and services, contributing to the organisation's strategic direction.
  • Participate in the development of the Strategic Plan, annual operating plans, and budgets.
  • Conduct comprehensive legal needs analysis every 3-5 years for target groups.
  • Supervise Solicitors and Legal Practice staff, including recruitment and annual performance appraisals.
  • Implement the NACLC Risk Management Guide within the organisation.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to develop and implement policies and procedures in line with the Risk Management Guide.
  • Advocate for and provide high-level advice on the organisation's public policy agenda.
  • Monthly reporting as required

Essential Criteria:

  • Eligible to hold an unrestricted practicing certificate issued by the Law Society of NSW.
  • Proven and substantial legal practice management experience, including casework and community legal education.
  • Understanding of the role and functioning of Community Legal Centres.
  • Commitment to social justice issues and disadvantaged individuals.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and high-level staff supervision abilities.
  • Analytical and strategic thinking skills.
  • Familiarity across a broad range of legal areas with advanced casework, litigation and advocacy experience in civil law, wills and estates and motor vehicle property damage claims
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Current NSW driver's license and capacity to use own vehicle for work travel.
  • Experience in a high-level legal role in a Community Legal Centre.

Desirable

  • Experience in Employment Law
  • Experience in Victim's Services claims
