About the Department
The Footbridge Community Care Unit (CCU), through a multidisciplinary team approach, provides ongoing specialist treatment and support to meet the identified needs of consumers who suffer with a serious mental illness and associated high level of disability in the City of Yarra and Boroondara.
About the Role
Under the guidance of the Director of Nursing, Mental Health and the Consultant Psychiatrist, the NUM for CCU will lead and inspire the current team, promoting and providing a high standard of support to consumers and carers. The NUM will oversee the program using the Strengths Model and recovery-orientated approach as well as leadership to the team, demonstrate support for the recovery-focused case management expertise of the team, and build the team's capacity to thrive in the provision of consumer-centred care.
Classifications for this position will be NP51 ($114,400 per annum).
Duties
- Lead the day-to-day management of staff including overseeing direct clinical care and liaise with the team to ensure that consumers are provided with high quality, recovery-oriented treatment and care that meets professional, service and quality standards
- Ensure systems for clinical review are in place in accordance with the service policy
- Communicate with all relevant nursing, medical, allied health and administrative staff, and other key stakeholders to achieve operational requirements and to ensure activity targets are achieved as per DHHS guidelines
- Ensure staff are familiar with relevant legislation, policy and DHHS guidelines
- Provide leadership and support for organisational change, inspiring quality improvement and strategic development
- Develop and maintain effective linkages to ensure optimal continuity of care between other parts of the service including the Inpatient Service (AIS), Community Teams, Emergency Department, housing and other area mental health services
- Ensure availability and access to supervision for all nursing and allied health staff
- Actively participate in mentor/preceptorship of all new staff and provide coaching to drive excellence in practice
- Act as a resource person and role model to all staff, and promote excellent morale and a positive attitude to change within the service
- In collaboration with the DON, ensure the maintenance of high standards of professional practice, including participation in the annual competency program by all staff
- Ensure a training and development plan, including an education program, is in place for all staff within the unit to maintain and update professional practice and knowledge
- Support the Post Graduate Nursing programs within the unit and participate in raising the unit profile within the external community
- Work within the recovery-focused Strengths Model of Care using the Safe Wards and Productive Ward processes
- Demonstrate commitment to the Values and Philosophy of the Sisters of Charity maintaining hope for consumers and their families
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- Degree in Nursing which meets AHPRA registration requirements
- Post-graduate qualification in Mental Health
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Mental Health setting
- Current drivers licence
