We are recruiting for a passionate and experienced Financial Counsellor to join our Financial Counselling Team in the Perth inner city. This fixed term, part time position is an opportunity to act within the framework and aims, objectivise and procedures of Vinnies Financial Counselling Services.
The Financial Counselling team sits within Vinnies Membership and Volunteer Department and is an integrated team of Society employees and volunteers dedicated to supporting the profile, awareness, and ‘good works’ of the St Vincent de Paul Society encompassing a range of professional services, including; policy development and implementation, procedural development, service evaluation, spirituality development, member formation, member skills training, administration, social justice advocacy and service provision.
About this position:
- Part time position based in Perth inner city
- Fixed term contract until 30 June 2020
- To provide professional financial counselling to assist individuals and families experiencing financial difficulties.
- Deliver effective and empathetic financial counselling services to those in financial difficulty
- Assess the financial situation of clients to identify immediate remedies and longer term solutions to improve a client’s financial wellbeing
- Support and enables sound financial decision making
- Compile and collect key information regarding for case files with meaningful and relevant case notes.
- Maintains an up to date understanding of relevant industry knowledge, attends regular supervision and participates in professional development activities
Selection criteria:
- Diploma in Community Services (Financial Counselling)
- Be a member of Financial Counselling Western Australia.
- Understanding of financial counselling, the finance industry and an awareness of consumers' rights and responsibilities including the ability to keep informed of industry knowledge
- Sound awareness of the issues encountered by persons suffering financial hardship and crisis
- Demonstrated ability to develop and foster relationships with internal and external stakeholders and proven ability to work sensitively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
- Excellent organisation and administrative skills including the ability to meet deadlines
- Well-developed decision making and problem solving skills
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
- High level of computer literacy necessary - Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Databases and Outlook
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of an integrated multi-disciplinary team
