Board Director (Voluntary)

Surf Life Saving Tasmania

Background

For over a century, Surf Life Saving Tasmania (SLST) has been at the heart of community safety — keeping Tasmanians safe at the beach through our volunteer lifesaving services, and rescue response capabilities.

We are also proud to deliver water safety education, accredited training, and outdoor activity programs that build confidence, resilience, and essential life skills across the state.

SLST is a dynamic not-for-profit organisation governed by a skilled and committed Board of Directors. With 18 affiliated clubs and over 3,300 members, we’re focused on creating safe coastal communities, supporting our volunteers, and ensuring the long-term sustainability of lifesaving in Tasmania.

Why join the SLST Board?

As a Director, you'll contribute at a strategic level to an organisation with real community impact. You don’t need have a background in surf life saving — we welcome and value fresh perspectives that help challenge, shape, and strengthen our approach.

We are committed to building a Board that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. In light of the upcoming retirement of a female Director, we particularly encourage women to apply.

We’re seeking individuals with experience in one or more of the following areas

  • Management accounting, financial management and/or risk management
  • Marketing, communications and/or media strategy

Previous Board or committee experience and Tasmanian residency will be viewed favourably. Directors are appointed for a term of up to three years.

The role at a glance

  • Voluntary governance role; reasonable expenses reimbursed
  • Meetings held every two months, typically outside business hours
  • Directors are expected to provide strategic insight, uphold governance standards, and contribute to SLST’s sustainability and growth
