Your New Role

As the Senior Adviser, Policy and Advocacy you will support the Society's research, policy development and advocacy so as to influence public policy on structural issues which impact the people we assist. Enhance our ability to influence decision-makers and the wider community by empowering Society people to take action for a more equitable and just society.

You will:

  • Manage research projects to inform and enhance our service delivery and shape public policy to improve the lives of the people we assist
  • Develop and communicate informed policy positions and advice based on data analysis, primary and secondary research, and consultation.
  • Work collaboratively with key government and non-government agencies regarding policy issues relevant to the Society's service provision.
  • Develop and deliver state-wide advocacy campaigns.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase the involvement of members, staff, volunteers and supporters in advocacy for social justice, and maximise their impact.
  • Develop high-quality policy and advocacy resources (submissions, briefing papers, toolkits, guides, factsheets, online resources).
  • Develop and deliver impactful events and training modules on social justice issues and how to take action throughout NSW.
  • Grow and develop social justice champions using community organising, influencing and coaching techniques.

To be successful, you will need:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification/s and experience in research, public policy development, systemic advocacy and/or community engagement.
  • High level research and analytical skills with the ability to synthesise information from a wide range of sources into clear policy positions and recommendations.
  • Ability to develop and implement advocacy strategies based on sound political judgement, collaboration and engagement.
  • Demonstrated capacity to build meaningful and productive relationships with a wide range of individuals and organisations.
  • High level interpersonal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex messages in an accessible and engaging manner.
  • Well-developed project and event management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and work autonomously to meet deadlines.
