Strong Brother, Strong Sister is a culturally appropriate safe place for Aboriginal young people to access and thrive. The structure and programs within the space guide, mentor and empower Aboriginal young people to achieve excellence.

The outcomes from these programs not only guide, mentor and empower Aboriginal young people, they also improve Aboriginal young people’s health and wellbeing and their communities beyond.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander designated position, classified under Section 12 Special Measures of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010.

This employment opportunity is only available to Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The Youth Support Officer is responsible for leading Strong Brother Strong Sister initiatives;

  • Community engagement
  • Youth participation in group activities
  • 1:1 youth mentoring
  • Linkages to social, emotional, health and wellbeing programs and services

A key aspect of the role is working with the Strong Brother Strong Sister is to provide holistic, culturally safe support whilst advocating and representing Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander young people's voices everyday and providing grassroots support that create immediate life changing experiences and connections to identity and belonging.

MAJOR DUTIES

  1. Supporting Aboriginal Young People and children with personally tailored 1:1 mentoring programs.
  2. Supporting Aboriginal Young People and children with social, emotional, health and wellbeing support and/or referral pathways to ensure Aboriginal Young People and children have strong connections to improve and maintain positive social, emotional, health and wellbeing.
  3. Designing and facilitating youth groups, groups activities, school holiday programs and/or group related activities that benefit outcomes for Aboriginal Young People and children.
  4. Designing and facilitating school groups, school activities and/or group related activities that benefit outcomes for Aboriginal students that are engaged at school and/or at risk of disengagement.
  5. Ensure excellent case management and data collection for all Aboriginal Young People and children engaged in programs and services.
  6. Other tasks set out by the senior management.
