100 Story Building

JOIN 100 STORY BUILDING AS OUR NEW PARTNERSHIPS AND BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER

100 Story Building is a vibrant creative writing centre and social enterprise that champions the voices of young people, especially those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and communities facing disadvantage.

Over the past 10 years, we have worked with more than 50,000 children and young people to support literacy, confidence and belonging through programs that nurture creativity in education, publishing opportunities and community storytelling.

We're looking for a passionate business and social impact leader to help take us to the next chapter of growth and impact.

Working at the intersection of social enterprise, education, community impact, creativity and fun, this role is a senior leadership opportunity where you will positively impact the lives of young storytellers.

The Partnerships and Development Manager coordinates and supports business development activities and income diversification at 100 Story Building.

THE ROLE

Working closely with the CEO and creative leadership team, you’ll lead and coordinate business development and partnership efforts. This role supports the strategic growth of our social enterprise and consultancy arm, builds our brand visibility, and fosters long-term stakeholder engagement. The role also contributes to organisation-wide team culture, aligned with our mission to amplify young voices.

This includes:

  • Identifying and securing funding from philanthropic, government and corporate partners.
  • Generating income through strategic partnerships, consulting services and workshops.
  • Supporting the expansion of our social enterprise and advocacy of our mission.
  • Building long-term stakeholder relationships and brand visibility.
  • Supporting funder stewardship, reporting and development impact measurement.

This is an ideal opportunity for someone with a passion for creative industries, social impact and youth empowerment.

Flexible working arrangements are available, and candidates from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

At 100 Story Building, our shared values include diversity and inclusion and we strive to be a place where everyone can thrive. We are committed to creating a staff and Board community which reflects the wider community that we serve.

This role is fixed term, part time (0.8 FTE), with a salary of $85,000 plus superannuation (pro rata).

WHO WE ARE

100 Story Building is a social enterprise and registered non-profit organisation. We work with children and young people to develop their creativity and literacy, confidence and sense of belonging that are fundamental to future success - through workshop programs, projects, online learning and community engagement.

Operating since 2012, 100 Story Building has delivered thousands of creative programs to more than 50,000 young participants, and gained extensive experience and an impressive track record developing creative spaces, programs and advisory services for children and young people.

Agency for children and young people is at the heart of all that we do at 100 Story Building.

We are dedicated to creating opportunities for children and young people to expand their imaginations, amplify their voices and become the hero of their own stories. We hold extensive experience in working with children and young people, in particular those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, and children with a lived experience of socioeconomic disadvantage.

In our very tall (or very deep?) building in Footscray, young storytellers create and write their own stories inspired by the strange creatures and peculiar happenings on the 99 levels below the trapdoor. However, like the ever-expanding creative minds of young storytellers, we are not limited by the walls of the building. We travel to classrooms, libraries, community centres, festivals across Victoria - both online and in-person.

WHO YOU ARE

Some specific attributes we’re looking for:

  • You're strategic and have strong commercial acumen. With an ability to define and deliver on organisational strategic priorities, and experience growing earned revenue streams or managing a consultancy or experience in enterprise growth strategies.
  • You have money smarts. You understand financial models and implications. You can manage budgets, raise money and know where and why it should be spent. You can take the lead to scale up our revenue through new products and clients, expanding our markets, and securing values-aligned corporate partnerships.
  • You’re a great communicator and storyteller, and use these skills to help us work better internally and communicate our story with external partners and clients who can support our work.
  • You come with a strong network and are exceptional at building enduring relationships. You have the capacity to engage with government, philanthropic partners, private, public and non-profit organisations, communities, and schools. You have high EQ, grit, and compassion, and can communicate with anyone on their level.
  • You’re great at solving problems. You bring strategy, innovation and solutions that work in a not-for-profit, social enterprise environment.
  • You’re intelligent and perceptive. Formal qualifications are not a barrier. We’re looking for a mix of experience and qualifications in a relevant field, including business, management, education, arts, for-purpose, development, community management, operations, finance, or social enterprise.
  • And most importantly, you have heart. You expect the best and carry others through the worst. You support and help others grow. You can translate passion for equity in learning opportunities for children into action, accept responsibility for outcomes with grace, and be an example for others to admire. You must be passionate about delivering the vision of 100 Story Building to make a difference in children and young people’s lives, unlock new value, and bring benefit to our communities across greater Melbourne and Victoria.

Employment Requirements

  • Working with Children Check (mandatory)
  • National Police Check
  • Full working rights in Australia (citizenship, permanent residency, or an unrestricted work visa)

TO APPLY

The full Position Description can be viewed here.

If you have questions or would like a confidential discussion, please send an email to our CEO, Lena Cirillo, at [email protected], using the subject line: Partnerships and Business Development Manager enquiry via EthicalJobs.

In-person interviews with shortlisted candidates will take place in mid-June, with the role to commence by early July.

Note: If you don’t meet all of the points above, but believe you would be a valuable part of our team, we still encourage you to apply. Formal experience is not the only factor in finding the right person for a role, and self-confidence is a slippery beast. Creative risk-taking and a growth mindset are things we encourage in young people… so you might want to give this a go too.
