St Joseph’s Outreach Services (SJOS) was established over 25 years ago as a volunteer run organisation focused on providing emergency relief to the vulnerable. We are a non-denominational organisation with a strong focus on diversity, inclusion and respect amongst our members, volunteers and visitors.
SJOS operates and maintains 12 fully furnished self-contained units providing homes for the vulnerable, a Food Store operating three days a week supplying staple foods to those in need, a Bread Bank which is accessible to the community 24 hours a day and a Harvest Garden from which all produce is made available to visitors of the Food Store. Each of these initiatives support the community’s increasing needs, doing so in a way that focuses on adaptive reuse and environmental sustainability. These programs are a constant source of help for over 13,000 individuals a year.
Provision of essential assistance, in a sustainable manner, to community members in need of support.
To provide quality food and transitional accommodation to our community.
To identify opportunities to draw on existing community resources, focusing on adaptive reuse and environmental sustainability.
To be welcoming to all and deliver service with dignity.
The ideal candidate would have a background in operational management and a passion for helping those in need. They would demonstrate operational management and decision-making skills, initiative, problem-solving, and strong stakeholder management skills – able to deal with a diverse range of customers, donors, volunteers and vendors. They should possess excellent verbal and written communication, and exceptional organisational and time management abilities – having the ability to work effectively under pressure, both independently and collaboratively.
This part-time on-site role is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the SJOS services, including transitional housing, food store, bread bank and harvest garden. The role works closely with the SJOS Volunteer Coordinator and SJOS Operational Support Officer, and is accountable to the SJOS Board and reports to the Chair of the Board. The role provides essential operational and administrative support to the otherwise volunteer-based organisation. As a key contact for the volunteers, donors and customers, the incumbent is expected to model positive leadership, be an effective communicator and individual contributor towards change initiatives, risk mitigation and the observance of SJOS values.
