The STEPS Work Mates program provides long-term and personalised employment coaching to youth with a NDIS plan. STEPS Work Mates can help youth with a disability transition seamlessly from school into work through School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES). School Leaver Employment Supports funding builds a participant's ability and confidence to enter the workforce. No matter where participants are in their employment journey, Work Mates can help every step of the way.

Due to growth, an exciting opportunity has become available for a Job Readiness Trainer to join the welcoming and supportive Bundaberg team. Support a participant's unique pathway to employment, help foster partnerships and goodwill in the local community, and utilise your professional networks to engage and connect with employers. This role is tailor-made for someone enthusiastic and ready to work with youth with disabilities from all walks of life.

Your responsibilities

  • Creating rapport with participants to uncover their goals.
  • Helping participants work through personal barriers.
  • Assessing individual strengths and teaching them to use these skills effectively.
  • Coaching on job search techniques and creating resumes.
  • Assisting youth with disabilities to develop social and life skills.
  • Mastering networking skills to connect with potential employers.
  • Keeping track of progress, maintaining confidential records, and providing reports.

The Successful Applicant

  • MUST HAVE a minimum of 2-3 years experience in a youth / disability support environment.
  • Genuine passion and empathy for supporting young people with a disability - be their superhero!
  • Strong communication skills and critical thinking abilities.
  • Keen eye for detail and understanding of the challenges faced by participants.
  • Ability to spot individuals strengths and weaknesses and guide them towards success.
  • Enthusiasm for making a positive impact and unlocking potential.
  • Aptitude to liaise with employers to analyse job requirements, workplace needs, providing support and guidance throughout.
  • Creativity to think outside the box and make the training sessions person-centred.

Applicants must have the ability to hold a Working with Children Check (Blue Card), NDIS Worker Screening Check (Yellow Card) and current open Driver's Licence.
