PURPOSE

As Jews we have a responsibility to improve our world. Stand Up exists to channel the collective energy, expertise and compassion of the Australian Jewish community to grasp and fulfil this responsibility.

Inspiring and mobilising the Australian Jewish community and working together with marginalised communities to tackle Australia’s most pressing social challenges through action and education.

PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE

Stand Up supports a First Nations Voice to Parliament, acknowledging the complexity and nuance of that support. In preparation for the upcoming referendum, and in line with Stand Up’s mission, we have launched Kol Halev and are running an ambitious campaign to educate about the YES vote. This requires the Stand Up campaign to:

  • mobilise leaders in our community by training them in organising and campaigning skills
  • unite the Jewish community behind a shared pursuit and common goal
  • expose the community to a new style of activism and community work that fostersstrong participation
  • position Stand Up as a dynamic and cutting edge communal organisation
  • share knowledge that equips other Jewish communal organizations with the ability tocreatively campaign for the Voice and other community change.

The community organiser in each city is responsible for galvanising community support through institutional networks, building partnerships, mobilising volunteers, conducting outreach, and advocating for the campaign's platform.

MAIN DUTIES

Supported by the campaign coordinator, the community organiser will:

  • Implement and help shape the community organising elements of the campaign strategy,which includes:

    • Community activation through existing Jewish community networks
    • Partnership with existing Voice campaigns within and external to the Jewishcommunity to coordinate events and collaboration opportunities
    • Partnership with existing Voice training and upskilling programs
  • Identifying the most impactful networks within the community, the leaders within those networks and then building relationships with those leaders to persuade them to undertake education and volunteer activities available through our campaign.
  • Build and manage a volunteer team of supporters, including coordinating volunteer training within a supportive environment
  • Liaise with advertising and graphic designers to create compelling content and publicity for the campaign.
  • Collate, analyse and report back on data relating to voter sentiment and the campaign outreach efforts.
  • Development reporting mechanisms to track the effectiveness of the campaign and the wider public support for the ‘Yes’ vote.

  • Active participation in Stand Up programs, events, social media and publications.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Ability to lead, manage and motivate others
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the natural ability to coordinate the collaboration of internal and external stakeholders
  • Knowledge and experience of the Australian Jewish Community.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering innovative, forward thinkingcampaign strategies to engage and inspire the Australian Jewish CommunityExperiencewith and/or knowledge (or ability to quickly gain knowledge) of working with First Nationspeoples and communities
  • An understanding of historical and current issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • A broad understanding of the wider impacts of Stand Up’s work including issues such as international politics, development philosophy, cross cultural understanding, and the social, cultural and economic aspects of the communities in which Stand Up works.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary qualification in law, communications, marketing, or related field
  • Experience managing a campaign, or working in a NFP environment is ideal
