About IGNITE Small Business Start Ups: Social Enterprise

Ignite Small Business Start-ups was established as a small-scale program in 2013 to support refugees and asylum seekers, establish businesses quickly and legally in Australia.

Nine years later, IGNITE has grown into a successful accredited social enterprise that exists to facilitate small business creation not only for refugees and asylum seekers, but also for people living with disability, First Nations peoples and others who traditionally struggle to access mainstream entrepreneurship support services.

IGNITE's impact and reach has now extended into Qld, regional NSW, Victoria and since 2019 in Vancouver, Canada.

About the Role

We are seeking an innovative, strategic and creative individual who will work closely with the Head of Commercial & Strategic Ventures and the Ignite operational team. The Ignite Social Enterprise Manager is responsible for the performance, sustainability and growth of the social enterprise, consistent with Ignite's vision, business plan and strategic objectives. This position will lead IGNITE in its expansion and commercialisation as a social enterprise nationally and internationally.

STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT: Provide strategic and operational leadership to SSI's IGNITE social enterprise to support the expansion and commercialisation of its service offerings and its financial systems.

PARTNERSHIPS AND NETWORKS: Support current and scope new opportunities for high level partnerships and collaborations to expand on IGNITE national and international reputation.

SUPPORT SUSTAINABLE CLIENT BUSINESSES: Provide strategic and operational support in the development of a commercial services model of business facilitation

IMPLEMENTATION: Oversee social impact measurement and reporting to ensure SSI can article outcomes within this field.

Selection Criteria

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field or commensurate experience and skills
  • Strong leadership, strategic thinking and planning skills; Ability to adapt and be flexible
  • Extensive experience in program design and management
  • Extensive experience managing a diverse team of staff including in regional areas
  • Entrepreneurial and practical business skills
  • Strong relationship building, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to provide expert and technical advice to senior management
  • Experience managing large-scale program and contract budgets
  • Strong capacity to problem-solve and adapt to local conditions
  • Experience managing programs with social justice outcomes
