The Queensland Multicultural Centre (QMC) is one of Brisbane’s iconic exhibition and events venues. Located beneath the Story Bridge on the historic Yungaba site. Opening in 2012, the purpose-built facility was established to promote unity in our society and a sense of belonging for all. QMC offers a broad range of spaces to suit both community and corporate needs and welcomes the opportunity for people to celebrate and share their diversity through performance and arts.

QMC is managed by BEMAC, Queensland’s most dynamic producer of multicultural arts. BEMAC has been successfully staging productions that fuel the diverse practice of artists from a variety of cultural backgrounds for over three decades.

We’re looking for someone with attention to detail and a can-do attitude to support our functions and events delivery.

About the Role

Event Support Officers will have delegated authority of the venue to ensure the successful delivery of events and functions for hirers. Their responsibility includes overall coordination of the event from bump in to bump out, including overseeing the front of house team and external contractors on duty. Exceptional customer service across all venue service points, problem shooting, good understanding of events and venue logistics, along with a “can-do, no problem” attitude to support the client and patron is a pivotal part of the role.

  • This is a hands on, customer focussed casual position
  • The work offered is generally during the evenings and on weekends

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Liaise directly with hirers, stage managers, artists, front of House staff and external contractors to ensure high standard of presentation and customer service is provided throughout every stage of the event/function delivery.
  • Bring a mature approach to dealing with issues or problems and find solutions that are in the best interests of the hirer and business reputation.
  • Ensure all relevant policies and procedures are being met in relation to workplace health and safety, emergency management, crowd control management and other State legislation and council by laws where applicable.
  • Conduct event and/or functions briefing with the front of House team and external contractors prior to each event bump in.
  • Effectively manage competing priorities and hirer needs during multiple events and/or functions and move swiftly around the venue in a safe and calm manner to address hirer needs.
  • Undertake other front of house duties such as ushering, box office and making public announcements as required.
  • Perform manual labour tasks as required during bump in and bump out. This role is not a desk role.
  • Assist with the training and development of casual FOH Ushers in order to maintain an effective, skilled, motivated and welcoming Front of House team.

Selection Criteria:

  • Front of House Duty Management experience (or similar role) in a similar events and/or functions venue.
  • Good understanding of diverse styles of events/functions sequence within a similar events and/or functions venue.
  • Impeccable customer service and communication skills to successfully liaise with a diverse client and patron base and in particular experience working and communicating with multicultural groups and communities.
  • Knowledge of Workplace Health & Safety
  • Responsible Service of Alcohol Certificate or ability to obtain one
  • Current Open C class Driver’s License; Current First Aid or the ability to obtain one
  • Current QLD Paid Blue Card or ability to obtain one; Rights to work in Australia
