About the Program

SSI delivers a specialist out-of-home care and permanency support services that provides a culturally appropriate model for children and young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds aged 0–18 years. We have a strong commitment to culturally responsive services. Wherever possible, as needed, we support children to be cared for by foster carers who share the same culture as the children or where this is not possible we maximise opportunities for children to be connected with their family’s ethnic backgrounds, religion/s and language/s.

About the Role

The Case Manager will provide support to children, young people, foster carers and families which will be consistent with SSI model and internal policies. The position aims to provide effective and targeted out of home care placements and support for children referred to the program, as well as their families. You will have the opportunity to work closely with volunteer caregivers, children, families and other key stakeholders in ensuring we provide a high quality service for children in need. 

Selection Criteria

  • A relevant qualification and/or degree in Social Work 
  • Experience working with culturally & linguistically diverse communities/families.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in English
  • Demonstrated casework experience, OOHC, Family Services and/or child protection
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Department Family Fairness and Housing with a particular emphasis on the Child Protection function
  • Knowledge of the relevant legislation (Child Youth and Families Act 2005 and Disability Act 2006)
  • Knowledge of theories relevant to the role and ability to implement intervention strategies
  • Well-developed analytical and organisational skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Negotiating strategy, techniques and skills
  • Computer literate with well-developed MS Office skills are essential
  • Driver’s licence

Selection Criteria

  • Previous work with Family and Community Services, DFFH, or with a non Government Organisation
  • Knowledge of Home-Based Care Service Network within the Northern Region
  • Previous experience with court work and with working with children and parents with challenging behaviours
  • Previous work with CALD communities
